Our favorite town in Germany, Tuebingen ( ), just quintessential Germany If you're not adverse to driving a little further east for some excellent sights. The ridgeline town of Horb am Neckar which was recently voted to have Germany's best Biergarten ( ) The centuries-old silver mines at Neubeulach ( ) Then drive down the other side which has some very good forest. You can continue on to ascend the Kandel mountain, a favorite of paragliders and hang-gliders with views over to France. The café across the street has excellent Black Forest cake, the best I've had there. If the library is open, visit it as it for me is the best thing that I've seen in the Black Forest. Peter visit the monastery's beautiful Baroque church. The views over the Black Forest are excellent. Continue on toward Furtwangen and return to the Hexenlochmuehle and then on to St. Then continue on to Wildgutach, I don't think that it gets more "Black Foresty" than this anymore. I love the drive from near Furtwangen to the Hexenlochmuehle (water powered mill, in the passageway between buildings you can see drive belts whizzing by at unbelievable speeds from that slow-turning water wheel). Alors, let's sum up:Ģ.Ěrrive early to take the limited free parking (only 4 or 5 of them)Īnswer: I would definitely visit the outdoor museum of Black Forest farmhouses moved there and reassembled from various parts of the Black Forest. The tour ends at the gift shop, and each gets 500ml of the beer of your choice (out of 7 different varieties) and a pretzel. (see attached photo and video) Here is pretty much à volonté if you drink fast enough and quick to get refills. Nothing much to say on the highly automated and industrialized manufacturing plant, the high-point is of course the tasting part where visitors can get fresh beer directly from the cooling tank. The tour is only in German, anglophones are given an audio guide, which is much less interesting than the storytelling/performance of the tour guide, at least from the look of it. The visit is by reservation only, but we got lucky and were allowed to join the group by the kind, gentle lady who guarded the entrance, and were even allowed to park there for free. The brewery is not far from the city center, a couple hundred meters away from its biergarten Wodan Halle. It’s highly recommended to pay them a visit and get some delicious tasting sample directly from their cooling tank. The Ganter beer is sort of Freiburg’s local brand.
